Recovery Coach Training
Training Overview
The Courage Center is an approved training center for APSC
(Addiction Professionals of South Carolina). We offer the 46-hour training specific to the four domains, (Advocacy, Mentoring/Education, Recovery Support, and Ethical Responsibility) as well as the South Carolina Department of Mental Health Peer Support Specialist Medicaid training that is needed to become a state-certified Peer Support Specialist through APSC.
Training & Certification Requirements:
- Lived experience with substance use and a minimum of one full year in recovery from problematic substances
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- 100 volunteer or professional service work hours supporting people who use drugs or recovery based services
- Upon completion of the full 46-hour training and successful passage of the exam, CPSS candidates must complete additional requirements to secure certification. This includes submitting an application to APSC, paying the required application fee, and maintaining active certification by completing the mandated continuing education credits every two years.
What's Included?

The 46-hour Recovery Peer Specialist Training equips individuals with essential skills to support others in recovery from substance use disorder. It covers recovery principles, peer support techniques, and ethical considerations.
Time Commitment?
Training will be from 9:00-4:00 PM each day with lunch on your own from 12:00-1:00 PM. Must attend all 46 hours to complete training.

Pricing Info?
The entire training program is priced at $250. Must pay the training fee two weeks before training. A staff member will be in contact with you to collect training payment.
