Courage Connections (Family)

  • Mount Horeb UMC - Room 547 1205 Old Cherokee Road Lexington, SC, 29072 United States (map)

When members of the family focus on the person of concern, this is usually what happens:

1) The family relinquishes control of their lives to the addicted individual.

2) Every member of the family eventually becomes co-dependent, the resulting illness of the family member.

3) The emotions of the co-dependents (other family members) are tied to the behavior of the addicted individual.

4) Every member of the family focuses on the person of concern, who exercises power to control the emotional, financial and spiritual climate of the whole family.

We can control our own recovery, set and hold healthy boundaries and understand the importance of self-care. There is hope for the hurting and healing for the wounded members in the family system.
